Hinge Terminology
LENGTHThe length of the leaves measured parallel to the pin. WIDTH OPENThe overall dimension of leaves measured across the pin PINThe rod running the length of the hinge. The pin holds the leaves of the hinge together.
KNUCKLEThe hollow circular part at the joint of the hinge through which a pin is passed. KNUCKLE LENGTHThe dimension of the knuckle measured parallel to the pin. PAINT CLEARANCEThe dimension between the outer face of the knuckle and the opposing edge of the leaf cut-out over the entire range of rotation. LEAF WIDTHThe dimension from the centre of the pin to the outer edge of the leaf. END PLAYThe amount of axial movement between leaves.
Assembly OptionsStandard AssemblyLeaves stay flat in the same plane in a open position.
Reverse AssemblyOpposing leaves extend laterally from opposite sides of the pin in the open position. Leaves will not close to parallel position. Unequal LeavesOne leaf is a different width than the other, measured from the centre of the pin.
One Leaf Half SwagedLeaves stay flat in the same plane in an open position.
Both Leaves Half SwagedBoth leaves swaged approximately one half the pin diameter. One Leaf Fully SwagedOne leaf swaged equal to the pin diameter and both leaves parallel when in closed position. One Leaf Reversed SwagedOne leaf swaged to simulate reversed assembly. Leaves will not close to parallel position.
OffsetForming of one or both leaves to provide more clearance between the leaves in closed position. |
